Kicking-off with a New ERP System Implementation

Rand Group worked with the parent company of the Houston Dynamo to evaluate their current business systems. The evaluation included an assessment of their financial and purchasing business processes, their reporting requirements, and review of their various application functions and configurations. Based upon the evaluation analysis, Rand Group recommended replacing the Oracle/JD Edwards application used for accounting and purchasing with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2016.

About Dynamo Soccer Holdings

Forever Orange, LLC (Houston Dynamo) owns two professional soccer clubs, Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash. The two teams represent the city of Houston, where the Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer and the Dash compete in the National Women’s Soccer League. Dynamo also owns Dynamo Stadium and Dynamo Sports Park, the stadium and facilities where matches are played. The venue is a multi-use facility and hosts concerts, college football and other events. Dynamo also supports the local Houston community through Dynamo Charities.

Playing at a Rapid Pace with Dynamics NAV

Dynamo was faced with a challenge. They were losing access to their old system and needed an integrated and flexible back-end business management system to support their planned growth – and they needed it fast.

The new accounting system would have to provide the necessary data for all key functional areas of their business, in addition to providing analysis and review of key performance indicators. Based on the Dynamo’s specific system requirements, Rand Group recommended implementing Dynamics NAV, a scalable, mature ERP system from Microsoft that could be hosted in Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

Multi-Company Functionality

With 9 companies to manage, the Dynamo require a multi-company system with inter-company capabilities and the reporting ability to roll up subsidiary companies to their parent companies.

Financial Reporting

The Dynamo require flexible and scalable reporting by department. Through NAV Account Schedules users can easily create ad-hoc departmental reports and analysis.

Compatible with Microsoft Technology

The new system requires integration and interoperability with Microsoft’s Azure platform and the Office 365 suite of collaboration tools.

Application Framework for Integration

The new ERP system must have an integration framework and tools for integrating with other Dynamo systems and processes.

Tackling the Project in 6 Months

Taking a phased approach, the Rand Group team was able to complete the first stage of the Dynamo ERP system in less than 4 months. Dynamics NAV General Ledger, Procurement and Cash Management were implemented in the first phase meeting core transactional processing needs and eliminating a number of Excel-based tracking and reporting workbooks. Rand Group then delivered the second phase in 2 months, implementing the Fixed Assets and Accounts Receivable modules.
