Dynamics GP Tip of the Month: Streamline record navigation with navigation lists
Finding relevant information for a record in Dynamics GP can sometimes be a tedious task requiring a user to open multiple inquiry windows or run various reports for that record. There are a few places in Dynamics GP where you can see all the relevant data for a record in one window.
Tip: Using navigation lists to simplify workflow
Dynamics GP Navigation Lists offer a powerful yet underutilized solution to streamline the process of finding relevant data. Available across all modules – such as Sales, Purchasing, Financial, and more – Navigation Lists allow you to view and interact with master records, transactions, and reports on a single, customizable screen. They function similarly to SmartLists but offer enhanced functionality and detailed record information within one screen.
To demonstrate the value of navigation lists, here are the steps to use and customize the Customer Navigation List in the Sales module:
1. Go to the Sales area page and select Customers
2. Click the down arrow next to Customers (read only) and select Save As to create a personalized
3. Enter a name for your list and click OK
4. Click the drop-down arrow next to your saved navigation list and select Customize
5. Click the arrow next to Columns
6. Add, remove, or reorder columns as needed then select OK
7. Save your changes to review the updated list
With your customized Customer Navigation List created, you can perform the following actions directly from the same screen:
- Add filters to display only relevant data, such as active customers with balances
- Use the Search feature to quickly locate records by searching against any field
- Select a customer to view detailed information in the pane below the list
- Perform actions for a selected customer, such as assessing a finance charge, placing the customer on hold, or creating an order or payment
- Generate reports for one or multiple selected records
