Dynamics 365 F&O Tip of the Month: Grouping data in grid views for analysis
Business users often need to quickly analyze data, but exporting to Excel and building pivot tables isn’t always the fastest or most convenient option, especially for ad hoc needs. Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) makes this easier by allowing users to group data directly within any grid view, saving time and delivering immediate insights.
TIP: Use grid grouping for ad hoc analysis
In Dynamics 365 F&O, you can group data by any column directly within the grid of a form—no need to leave the system or export data. This built-in capability allows you to organize and analyze large data sets with just a couple of clicks, and it even works with calculated values.
How to use this feature:
- Navigate to the form where you want to analyze data (e.g. All Vendors)
- Right-click on the column header you want to group by (e.g. Vendor Group)
- Select Group by this column from the context menu
The system will automatically group the data based on your selection, making it easy to spot trends, outliers, or performance by category, all without leaving the grid.
Why use this feature?
This feature is a powerful way to gain real-time insights without disrupting your workflow. Whether you’re reviewing vendor performance, analyzing transactions, or summarizing sales by category, grid grouping lets you slice and dice data quickly, no Excel export required.
