Issue #1: How do I give users access to a task in Sage Timberline Office?

Solution: Assigning tasks to roles in Security Administration (Sage Timberline Office version 9.5.x and higher)
These instructions are intended to assist Sage Timberline Office Security Administrators with modifying an existing security setup. If you are setting up security for the first time, you will need additional instructions regarding planning and setup of Sage Timberline Office Security.

In versions 9.5.x and later, Sage Timberline Office security allows access based on roles. Follow the steps below to add a task to a role.

Note:Only Security Administrators have permission to modify roles.

  1. In Sage Desktop, from the Tools menu, select Security Administration.
  2. Select Role Setup and select the role that applies to the task.
  3. On the Users tab, verify that the appropriate users are assigned to the role. If you need to add a user, click [Add].
  4. On the Tasks tab, select the Sage Timberline Office tasks that apply to this role.
  5. Click [Save]

Note: For changes to take effect, users will need to close all Sage Timberline Office applications and log back in.

For more information on security in 9.5, refer to the Security Guide.pdf file located on the CD or in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\Accounting\Wininst\Documents folder.

Issue #2: How do I restrict operators from accessing specific Sage Timberline Office Desktop home page designs?

Solution: Use network security to restrict read access to the home page
In Sage Timberline Office CD 9.2.0 or later, you can set up Sage Timberline security to enable or disable access to specific menu options. However, if you want to restrict specific home page report designs, use Windows network security to restrict read access to the specific home page design files.

Typically, these files are located at X:\Program Files\Timberline Office\Documents\Desktop\Home Pages (where X:\ represents the network location of your Sage Timberline files). Contact your system administrator for assistance with setting up Windows network security.

Issue #3: Can I use Sage Timberline Office with Microsoft Windows Vista?

Solution:Using Sage Timberline Office with Microsoft Windows Vista
Sage Timberline Office versions 9.5 and later are compatible with Vista 32bit Business Edition. Version 9.6 and later is compatible with Vista 32bit or 64bit Business Edition.

Sage Timberline Office versions 9.4.x and earlier are not compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista. If possible, use Microsoft Windows XP Professional for 9.4.x and earlier versions of Sage Timberline Office.

You can use Microsoft Terminal Services to access Sage Timberline Office from workstations with Microsoft Windows Vista installed. Microsoft recommends the use of Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 to provide compatibility support for mission critical applications which are not yet compatible with Windows Vista. However, Sage Timberline Office is not supported on this solution and so we do not recommend it for Vista compatibility. Issue #4: How do I start Sage Timberline Office Desktop?

Solution:Start Sage Timberline Office Desktop from the Windows Start menu
You can start Sage Timberline Office Desktop from the Windows Start menu (Start > Programs > Timberline Office > Desktop).

Issue #5: Where are my Service Mangement reports located after I upgrade to Sage Timberline Office 9.5?

Solution: Sage Timberline Office folders have been moved to be compliant with User Account Control (UAC)
The default Service Management reports are now located at :X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5\Accounting\Report\Service Management
(X: represents the local drive where Sage Timberline Office was installed).

Custom reports are now located at:X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Timberline Office\9.5\Accounting\Report\Service Management\Custom
(X: represents the local drive where Sage Timberline Office was installed).

Refer to the Technical System Reference guide located in your Documents folder for further information about UAC compliance.
