Along with the other board members, he will act as an avid supporter, and business advisor.

Houston, Texas – January 14, 2013 – As part of an ongoing commitment to the community of South Central Texas, Rand Group continues its tradition of being an active participant and supporter of Houston Public Media – a multi-platform group which includes HoustonPBS, KUHF, News 88.8, KUHA Classical 91.7 and their websites. Rand Group has helped Houston Public Media through both corporate sponsorship, and by participating in Prime Time Partner Events, such as the Membership Drive. Rand Group believes not only in supporting the local community financially, but also by contributing one of Rand Group’s most precious resources – time.

Rand Group is highly focused on helping children in Texas thrive and grow, and Houston Public Media helps meet this mandate. As a non-profit organization they provide quality educational programming which is free of advertising and can be viewed by anyone over the air or online, reaching parts of the community who may not otherwise have access to this valuable content. Public radio further enriches lives in the community by providing a free, 24/7 source for classical music, news and entertainment.

A support organization made up of volunteers, The Association of Community Broadcasting (ACB) raises funds for HoustonPBS and Houston Public Radio, as well as advocates for the groups on local and national levels. ACB assists in fundraising efforts and other activities which focus on preserving the financial future of Houston Public Broadcasting; and they continue to engage and cultivate community resources in pursuit of their mission to open minds, change lives and enrich the community. ACB Board Members participate further by providing personal gifts, and donating their time to make calls with staff, writing letters of support and serving as public ambassadors. They also help secure sponsorships and auction items, sell tickets to and attend station sponsored events, and serve on committees.

“I truly believe in local public broadcasting as a method for empowering and educating people – and especially children – in our community. It’s important to me that Houston be seen as a major corporate center, as well as somewhere vibrant, diverse and a great place to raise a family. The programming of HoustonPBS and Houston Public Radio helps educate pre-school and elementary children in this community. It gives them access to educational programming and classical music, both of which I feel are integral parts of a child’s overall development. As Vice President of the Association for Community Broadcasting, I am excited to participate in driving a bright fiscal future for these groups, and further solidifying them as an integral part of our community here in Houston,” says Ron Rand, President & CEO of Rand Group.

Ron has a strong commitment to serving as a business leader in the community and continues to fulfill this role. He is an active participant and supporter of the Houston Humane Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Houston, public television station HoustonPBS (KUHT), Houston Public Radio (KUHF), Houston Symphony, Alley Theatre, and the Houston Zoo. As part of his dedication. he is consistently leading Rand Group in their search for new and impactful ways to give back to the community.

“Ron Rand cares deeply about the Houston community and he is passionate about keeping public media healthy and thriving. Rand Group has been very supportive of our mission. We are honored to have their expertise, commitment, and leadership,” says Lisa Shumate, Executive Director/General Manager of Houston Public Media.
