The challenge
TCC engaged with a software partner to implement Dynamics 365 Business Central as a replacement to its old ERP system. However, the implementation was unsuccessful, with users confused on how to use Business Central, only half of the data migrated to the new system, and business processes not fully set up. They were left with paying for two ERP systems and not functioning properly in either.
TCC also had several manual time-consuming processes, one of which was coordinating billing with subcontractors, which is an important task in the construction industry that can require a heavy investment in time.

For TCC, a major goal was to automate subcontractor payments and create a communication portal that integrates directly with Business Central. Additionally, due to rapid business growth, TCC was overwhelmed with material procurement to fulfill upcoming projects and needed a system to speed up the process.
Inefficient ERP constraining growth
The solution
Rand Group stepped in as a long-term partner to ensure TCC’s technology challenges were solved. - Re-implemented Business Central and configured business processes to improve operations and facilitate growth

- Built a custom subcontractor portal using Azure technologies to automate and streamline payments

The result
TCC now uses Business Central to manage its everyday business and financial operations with users fully trained on best practices. Team members save 16 hours – 2 full days of work – each week through automated workflows to process invoices. The custom subcontractor portal, plus an integration with third party add-on ProjectPro, streamlines communication and reduces the need for manual back-and-forth emailing. The solution not only frees up TCC staff time to focus on higher value tasks, but also improves the subcontractor experience.
The new system has also allowed TCC to accelerate growth. “With the increased volume we’re experiencing today, there is no way we could possibly procure materials for our upcoming projects in a timely enough manner to fulfill our contracts if we didn’t have Business Central.”
A few months after the re-implementation project, TCC engaged with Rand Group to implement Dynamics 365 Sales to boost their sales operations and help close more leads. Additionally, communication has improved between stakeholders about new sales opportunities through an automated email workflow in Power Apps.
“Business Central has much more flexibility than our previous software. It is compatible with other Microsoft products we use, including Outlook 365 and Teams, which helps us tremendously with efficiency.”
