D365 Finance & Operations Tip of the Month: Share records instantly with Get a link

By on May 22, 2026

In Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O), collaboration often depends on making sure everyone is looking at the exact same information. Whether you’re troubleshooting an issue, assisting an end user, or working with developers and support teams, manually explaining how to navigate to a specific record can slow things down and create confusion.

Fortunately, D365 F&O includes a simple built-in feature called “Get a link” that allows users to generate a direct URL to the exact record, form, or page they’re viewing. Combined with a quick browser tab duplication trick, users can improve collaboration, reduce back-and-forth communication, and work more efficiently throughout the day.

The Get a link feature generates a direct URL to the specific record or page you currently have open in D365 F&O. Instead of providing step-by-step navigation instructions, users can simply share the link through Teams, email, tickets, or documentation.

This is especially useful when:

  • Assisting users with questions or issues
  • Collaborating with internal teams or developers
  • Sending context to support teams
  • Creating process documentation or training materials

Key benefits include:

  • Share exact records instantly, no navigation instructions required
  • Improve collaboration across teams
  • Reduce back-and-forth during troubleshooting
  • Ensure everyone is viewing the same data
  • Save time when supporting end users

Prerequisites

  • Users must have security access to the form or record being shared
  • The link will only work for users within your D365 environment
  • The record must not be restricted by security roles
  1. Navigate to the record or form you want to share.
  2. In the top action pane, select Options.
  3. Click Get a link.
  4. Copy the generated URL.
  5. Paste the link into Teams, email, tickets, or documentation for others to access.

Bonus tip: Work more efficiently with browser tab duplication

Sometimes you need to compare records side-by-side or reference one screen while working in another. Instead of navigating away and losing your place, you can duplicate your browser tab to create a second working session.

  1. Right-click on your browser tab.
  2. Select Duplicate.

This opens a second instance of your current D365 session, allowing you to:

  • Compare records side-by-side
  • Keep your original view intact while exploring
  • Multitask more efficiently within D365 F&O

Tip insights

  • Use Get a link when logging tickets or escalating issues to provide immediate context
  • Pair shared links with screenshots for clearer communication
  • Encourage power users to include record links when reporting issues
  • Use duplicated tabs during reconciliations or record comparisons
  • Don’t overlook “simple” features, many users aren’t aware of these built-in time savers

Why this tip matters

In D365 F&O, efficiency often comes from reducing unnecessary steps and improving communication. Features like Get a Link and browser tab duplication help users collaborate faster, troubleshoot issues more effectively, and navigate the system with less effort.
