Beyond a standard barcode scanner
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is a popular ERP system to manage finance and warehouse operations. With NAV, users can perform all standard warehouse operations: picking, shipping, receiving, put-aways, and inventory counts; however, out-of-the-box, this functionality is not available on a mobile device using a barcode scanner. To provide warehouse users the flexibility and efficiency of using a mobile device and barcode scanner, Rand Group built a custom barcode application to integrate with Dynamics NAV.
This custom warehouse management and barcoding app includes the following functionality:
- Allows for barcode scanning on a tablet device
- Shows workers where to put an item away
- Provides real-time data on item locations
- Reduces the time from customer order to shipping
Tracking employees’ time and expenses
A system for employees to enter their time and business expenses, and for supervisors to monitor and approve is a nearly universal need for organizations. However, standard time and expense apps might not cut it or allow for customizations. Rand Group’s software engineering team has built several custom time and expense apps that enable users to:
- Send automatic notification to supervisors when an entry deadline is missed
- Add new time codes or projects with zero coding

Automated authorization for expenditures
Often times large purchases require pre-approval across the organization and can be a very manual process. Rand Group built an authorization for expenditures (AFE) application for a client that automates the approval process and integrates with an existing ERP.
The custom AFE app:
- Allows for setting up different levels of approvals as well as a the combination of dimensions that are required at each level
- Allows the submission of an attachment
- Automatically sends an email requesting approval and confirming approval
- Sends data to the ERP once an order is approved
